Question by Jen: For those that have tried natural or store bought Body Cleansers (detox) ?
I’ve heard these things are fake, then I’ve heard people say that it works well and cleanses them out. I’d like you know your experiences with detoxifiers, do they work? If you’ve had success with using them can you please list what you bought or used??

I am, by nature, skeptical. When we are talking about commercials, I become doubly skeptical, and it has ALWAYS (not shouting) worked to my advantage.
Bottom line: detox cleansers, are basically laxatives.
I am not a doctor or medical professional, etc.
However, I am a research geek….means I double and tripple check what the so-called expert tells me. For example, before I take even a prescription that a medical doctor prescribes, i might spend days researching the heck out of it. Yea, I know you might think I am nuts (and there might be some truth there) but at least I know
I DID MY HOMEWORK.
So far as my understanding of these so-called cleansers is that they are nothing more than laxatives i.e. they make your bowels work.
These are usually salts that make the large bowel expell its contents much more rapidly than normal. The standard stuff is under the trade name Fleet Phosphosoda
It is normally prescribed by medical doctors a day or two before you get a colon exam.
The Fleet Phosphosoda is taken orally, and please make life easier on yourself by drinking lots of water (6 or so glasses, lukewarm) so you do not dehydrate. Plan on staying home and near the toilet for at least 4 to 6 hours. After that, a nice long shower will be viewed as a nice way to complete the ordeal.
Your colon will be pretty clean, that is for sure. There is as with anything good news and bad news. A clean colon, if your are in good health, will really only make you better. Look at it as a shower for your colon, which after all, contains all the things your body wants to get rid off. On the other hand, people who spend all day in the shower might be candidates for a good psychological evaluation, just as people who get “hooked” on taking colon cleansers all the time.
As far as my reasearch has some up with, those so called colon detox products that are based on herbal teas and whatever, are potentially very dangerous. The Fleet you get at WalMart is a couple of bucks and when used within reason is no more dangerous than taking an extra long walk.
Having said all that, please remember that everything assumes you are relatively normal (no insult) and you do not have obstruction of the bowel, cancer, ultra high blood pressure, ad nauseum.
There are are lots of good sites on the Internet Google laxative, and try to stay away from the “herbal-type” sites as they tend to be a bit flakey because, I am sure your medical doctor would just tell you to go to the drugstore and do a Fleet product
Good luck – always question authority (and especially commercials)
