Question by Greta: Is Acai Berry weight loss a big fat scam?
I really need to lose 20 pounds asap, keep it off for once, want to do it healthy, with a detox effect, not just eat cabbage for weeks!

I get lots of emails about Acai Berry for weight loss, sounds healthy, but every review I read says Scam Alert, product doesn’t work, expensive, they suck up your money, keep billing you.

I’ve spent enuf cash on diets.

There’s a website I found googling weight-loss cleanses, http://www.nulean-acaiberrydiet.com also claims Acai doesn’t do much, has anyone tried Nulean????

I like the sound of it, but want some feedback.

Our bodies do not have it straightforward. Each day, we’re exposed to poisons in the air, the water and even in our food! It’s hard to avoid this exposure irrespective of how healthy of a life you try to live.

Unless you’re able to eat only organic produce, you could be getting pesticides in your vegetables and vegetables. If you eat meat, you could be exposed to giant amounts of antibiotics and even growth hormones! Fish can contain mercury and other water carried contaminants.

These poisons make it troublesome for your liver to function correctly, can lower your metabolism (leading to weight ) and have plenty of other dangerous effects. The environmental poisons we are commonly exposed to may cause numerous forms of cancer, persistent fatigue syndrome and other ailments.

Naturally, you would like to eliminate these poisons from your body as completely as possible. You could have seen some of the numerous commercials for de-toxing foot pads. It seems a fair enough idea – but do these foot pads really work?

Kinoki and Avon are among the corporations that promote these detoxifying foot pads. These pads were tested on the program 20/20 and by a number of bloggers concentrating on the field of health.

The results? Discontent . Almost all of the subjects who tried the foot pads reported no change in their health or sense of well-being; surprising given that these were prepared subjects who were hopeful that the pads would be effective for them.

The makers of these foot pads make the allege that their products turn dark as they pull poisons from the body thru the bottoms of the feet. One thing which all of the participants did agree on is the pads did, in fact turn dark. The other thing the partakers came to a general agreement on is that they smelled nasty – some even announced the smell managed to permeate their bedding.

So what about laboratory tests on the pads? Again, upsetting ; these showed no poisons whatsoever in the pads after being worn. In reality, testing proved that the pads turned dark when exposed to water – the darkening of the pads was caused by perspiration, not toxins. A straightforward test with distilled water proved that this alone would turn the pads dark.

The conclusion? Simple enough – do not squander your money. These pads don’t detoxify the body and are either a well intentioned but ill conceived product or an outright scam.

It’s a familiar sight in many malls and beauty salons. A lady (who may be dressed in white) offers to remove impurities from your body by means of an “ionic foot bath.” The foot bath also goes by the name of aqua chi machine, bio electrical biofeedback machine, foot spa, energy spa and super deter foot bath.

Regardless of how it is called, the process is the same. Your feet are immersed in a basin of salt water that is electrically charged with two electrodes for about 30 minutes. After the “treatment”, the clear water takes on a black or dark brown color. This is offered as proof that the product works.

“The system supposedly draws toxins out through the soles of the feet and the water changes color due to the release of toxic substances through the 2,000 pores of the soles of the feet. The water will change color and consistency – from orange, brown to black. Yellow is said to come from the kidneys and bladder; orange/brown from the joints; green/dark brown to black from the liver, gallbladder and/or bowel; and white from the lymphatic system,” according to Dr. Stephen Barrett of the California-based National Council Against Health Fraud Inc.

A similar method employs a special type of adhesive foot pads that are worn on the bottom of the feet overnight. During sleep, the pads allegedly remove toxins from the body that are expelled in the form of sweat. This is seen in the color change in the pads from white to gray-black.

Like the foot bath, the pads are advertised as effective against all kinds of contaminants including heavy metals, metabolic waste, microscopic parasites, mucous and even cellulite. They are also said to rid users of migraine, gout and a host of other diseases.

While “treatments” need to be done regularly and cost a lot, they may appear reasonable to unwary consumers who may think they are getting a bargain considering the number of diseases these devices can supposedly cure.

Unfortunately, the people behind these products are only after your money since the latter don’t work. Barrett said the skin is not a permeable membrane, meaning that substances placed on the outside of the feet won’t absorb substances circulating within the body.

“Even if they could, this would not remove ‘toxins’ from the body. Real detoxification takes place in the liver, which modifies the chemical structure of undesirable substances. The modified substances then circulate through the bloodstream to the kidneys, which filter them into the urine. The skin has no involvement in this process and is not an organ of detoxification. Sweat, which contains water and salt, helps maintain body temperature but does not play a significant role in toxin removal,” Barrett explained.

The change in the color of the water is due to electrolysis or a simple chemical reaction. The brown “toxins” are actually rust or oxidized iron generated by the corrosion of the iron electrodes that are placed in the basin.

In short, the change in the water color is due to increased iron content. This can be made regardless of whether or not feet are placed in it. Different colors can likewise be made by adding salt to the water and variations in the composition of the electrodes.

How do you explain the color change in the foot pads that aren’t immersed in water? Nancy Ferrari, managing editor of HEALTH beat, a newsletter published by Harvard University, said the pads, which are impregnated with wood vinegar, change color when they absorb foot perspiration or are sprayed with tap water. Nothing miraculous there folks.

So the next time someone offers you to try a foot detox system, save your sole and “de-FEET” them with these scientific arguments.

Our bodies are exposed to a large variety of toxins on a daily basis. They are found in the food we eat, the water we drink, and the air we breathe.

The fruit and vegetables that we eat can contain pesticides. The meat that we eat can contain such things as growth hormones and large amounts of antibiotics. Even fresh fish can contain high amounts of mercury.

Toxins can interfere with the efficiency of your liver. They can also lower your metabolism, which can cause weight gain. Toxins that are found in your body have also been shown to contribute to such ailments such as chronic fatigue syndrome and various types of cancer.

It is only natural that we will want to try to remove any toxins that we can from the body. There are also numerous commercials about the foot pads that help your body detox. It seems like a very simple and straightforward way to help draw toxins out of the body. But the question is, do they really work?

Both Avon and Kinoki are two companies that promote the detoxifying foot pads. They were recently tested by numerous people both on the show 20/20 and some professional bloggers.

The results were very disappointing. The vast majority of people who use the foot pads said that they did not feel any difference when they were using them. This is in spite of the fact that most of the people who tried these foot pads really did want them to work.

The foot pads manufacturers claim that the pads turn dark because they draw the toxins out of the body through the bottom of the feet. All of the people that participated in these tests did acknowledge the fact that the pads did turn dark. They also said that there was a horrible smell associated with the pads when they woke up in the morning. A few of the subjects said that the smell was so bad that permeated the sheets and blankets on the bed.

But laboratory tests on the pads showed that there were no toxic substances in the pads themselves. Further tests showed that the pads would turn dark because of the substances that were contained in the pads to begin with. Even distilled water would cause the pads to turn dark.

The conclusion is the detoxifying pads that are advertised do not work and are, basically, a scam.

Introduction to Foot Detox

Foot spa, foot detox is known as Ashiyu in Japan. It is a procedure that soaks the feet in a low hot spring. When the feet get warm, then the whole body will be warm.  The whole body will loosen up just like taking a bath in a hot spring.

Foot detox came from Japan 1,600 years ago. It is used there to cure sickly old people and monks who are in pilgrimage. Foot detox is usually done in the hot spring flowing out of the rock at night. The old sick Japanese people soak their feet in this hot spring before going to bed at night to release stress and exhaustion. This will result in a healthier morning every time they wake up.

The Modern Foot Detox

Modern foot detox is done by soaking the feet for 30 minutes in a water and salt bath energized through a low-voltage electrical current. Makers claim that you can dramatically detox through the feet. They say that positively charged ions are sent into the body which attach themselves to negatively charged toxins and they are drawn out of the body through the feet.

On the other hand, none of manufacturers in Japan maintain that it can do detoxification through feet. They just maintain that it can assist in revitalizing the health, eliminating exhaustion and other stress-related sickness.

The Reality on Foot Detox

Are the benefits of foot detox really true? In fact, there is no medical proof that they remove toxins from the body. Manufacturers claim that the water changes color due to the release of toxic substances through the 2000 pores of the soles of the feet.  Toxins from the joints are supposed to turn the water orange or brown, toxins from the kidneys turn the water yellow and if the water turns black water it indicates that the toxins have been released from the liver, gallbladder or bowel. Skeptics claim that the color changes are due to oxidation of the iron in the water.

Energy Medicine

As a result of experiments done on the water by skeptics some manufacturers now put more emphasis on the “balancing” of “energy” instead of the removal of toxins.  There is no doubt that many practitioners really believe they enable the body to release toxins by balancing the body’s energies and there are many people who will testify to the fact that their symptoms and health improved after a course of  ionic foot detox treatments.

Some doctors who practise live blood analysis have found that there were clear improvements in the blood of people who had been treated with the ionic foot detox. Cells that were preciously clumped together became separate and were able to move freely in a healthy manner.

Western medicine does not seem to understand energy in the same way as the Chinese. According to Chinese medicine experts, there are spontaneous effect areas in the feet which relate to all parts of the body.  Reflexology, the ancient art of treating the body through the feet, is based on this fact . So even though the energy difference cannot be measured in a way that satisfies mainstream Western medical doctors it does not mean that we should dismiss this foot detox as a scam.
