The season of excess is just about coming to an end and as a result of this many of us are turning our minds to dieting and detoxing to try and make up for the amount of food and drink that we have consumed over the holidays.

If this sounds like you and you are looking around for something that will get you back on the straight and narrow then you might be in the mood for a detox.

Now if you dieted before then you might have tried the odd detox in your time but without doubt one of the most hard core detoxes around is the lemonade diet or as it is also known the Master Cleanse.

This detox is not for the faint hearted, as it requires you to go without any solid foods for around 10 days (although most people only last couple of days at most). It is rumoured that Beyoncé used this diet in order to trim down for her role in Dreamgirls and you can see why this has become so popular with dieters the world over, as when you are doing something that was tried by Beyoncé herself then you are in good company.

As with all diets you have to make sure that your doctor thinks that you are in a fit state to partake, so make sure that you get your doctor’s approval before you partake in any type of detox.

For those of you who want to give it a try, then you will need fresh lemons, maple syrup and cayenne pepper in these ratios: 2 TBL fresh lemon juice, 2 TBL genuine maple syrup, 1/10 tsp. cayenne pepper and 8 fluid oz. water.

The diet is meant to give your body a break from breaking down complex foods and drinks that are not good for you and helping to bring back an equilibrium to your system.

The Master Cleanse Detox Diet has been popular since its inception during the 1940s. The lemon detox diet has gained more mainstream attraction. however, the strict regimen and routine involved makes it hard for people to finish or even consider following the diet. a more plausible alternative has been proposed in the form of the Simply Slender Lemonade Diet.

Various people who have tried the Master Cleanse, whether it was a successful or unsuccessful experience, often remarked on how difficult the diet was. as the diet called for not consuming any other food specified on the diet, it often left people in physical pain and craving for solid foods. Eating is a normal part of a person’s daily routine. The detox program has been commonly compared to a fast rather than a diet with this amount of deprivation. Individuals felt weak, unable to do any exercise or physical activity. now with the availability of the Simply Slender, people can follow the diet without feeling weak.

The Simply Slender Diet mixes the effectiveness of the Master Cleanse product but making it more convenient for a greater number and types of individuals to use. instead of slaving away squeezing lemons and mixing the right amount of it with maple syrup and cayenne, people can buy a bottle of the product and mix it with water. People no longer need to fast from food any longer. They can continue to eat small meals consisting of fruits and vegetables, allowing more nutrients to be absorbed in the body while a cleansing of the system is occurring. Individuals will no longer feel the hunger pains and fatigue commonly associated with the lemon diet.

In comparison to the Master Cleanse Diet, the Simply Slender Program lasts much shorter. This program can be complete within 2 – 4 days while the Master Cleanse can last up to 2 weeks. The duration of the program can also be adjusted to the individual’s capacity to as short as 2 or 3 days and still experience the same results and success.

Although manufactured, the main components have been retained but with some few additions. other natural ingredients include Acai juices, Goji, Mangosteen and Noni. Vitamin C, Beta Carotene and other vitamins and minerals have also been added in order to make the Simply Slender Lemonade Diet a more complete detoxification program.

Question by Steve O: Is the Lemonade Diet for Detox, Weight Loss or Just a Fad Diet? Is the Lemonade Diet Safe?
I am interested in detoxing and beginning to eat better. I have read a lot about the Lemonade Diet. Sometimes this is called the Master Cleanse, but I always have called it the Lemonade Diet.

It seems safe. You start the Diet by making the Lemonade out of Lemons, Maple Syrup and Cayenne Pepper. You don’t eat or drink anything else except water while doing the Lemonade Diet and supposedly you loose lots of fat and eliminate toxins that are stored up in your body.

I understand lots of people get scared of the Lemonade Diet because it is an unknown, alternative idea but I want to know if there are any factual pros or cons to doing it. Drinking the Lemonade seems to give you calories and nutrients (rich, organic lemons and high grade sugar) and so it would seem the diet is like an internal IV system.

Thanks for your help.

It’s just a fad.
Any temporary diets are fads.
Liquid diets are even more of a fad. You’re just starving yourself, and when you’re done your brain will tell you to overeat to compensate.
And detoxing is also a fad, and crap science. Unless you have been poisoned, you don’t need to detox anything. And drinking lots of liquid wouldn’t help that anyway.

Tom Jones talks about eating like a caveman, while Russell Crowe tweets openly about his battle with the bulge. Hilary Rose looks at our enlightened attitudes towards . . .

The news that Tom Jones has lost 2st in five months on the caveman diet, which advocates unprocessed foods, has propelled the men’s diet industry into the spotlight.

For years dieting was something that women did. Men might buy sport magazines and even join a gym, but that was to muscle up, you understand, not — heaven forbid — to lose weight, and they certainly wouldn’t admit to being on an actual diet.

But a spate of celebrities coming out as dieters, such as Russell Crowe, Gary Barlow and Jason Statham, has broken the taboo.

This year men are being treated to such diet books as, for starters, The Flat Belly Diet for Men; The Men’s Health Diet: 27 Days to Sculpted Abs, Maximum Muscle and Superhuman Sex; The Man Diet: how to Wean Yourself off Junk Food Love and The new Abs Diet: The Six-Week plan to Flatten your Stomach and Keep you Lean for Life.

"Women buy about 55% of all books," Tom Tivnan, of The Bookseller, says.

"so the most likely scenario could be that they’re buying more male-orientated diet books to get their increasingly tubby significant others into better shape."

Books espousing unisex diets such as the Dukan diet, the Atkins diet and Paul McKenna’s I can Make you thin currently top the bestseller lists.

"I think the Dukan appeals to men because the diet seems to be ‘eat like a very hungry Frenchman’," says Tivnan.

According to Toby Wiseman, associate editor of Men’s Health magazine: "The stigma of weight loss issues has gone. It’d be embarrassing to admit you’re on a particular diet, but it’s fine for men to say they’re not going to eat chips, or have a glass of wine rather than a bottle of beer.

"Diets are the same as grooming: men get introduced to these things by their partners … then it gradually becomes more acceptable."

On the caveman diet Jones had to cut out his habitual bottle of red wine with dinner every night, as well as embracing fresh food including fish, chicken and vegetables and avoiding carbs and processed foods; in other words, the sort of diet our grandparents ate (if they were lucky).

"I was putting too much weight on," the 71-year-old singer told BBC Radio 2. "I couldn’t get into my suits. I thought, ‘This has got to stop’."

He’s not alone. Statham admits that he doesn’t eat carbs after lunch, while the 46-year-old Crowe tweets regularly about his battle with the bulge and attempts to get fit.

"I have to be really disciplined," he said recently, before going on to detail the workouts, weight training and cycling sessions that he had completed in the previous 24 hours.

What’s unusual about Jones isn’t that he went on a diet; it’s what took him so long. According to Wiseman, most men realise at about the age of 30 that a lifestyle of zero exercise and eating whatever they want is no longer sustainable.

"We know that when men do take the decision to do something about their weight they do very well," says Zoe Hellman, the WeightWatchers Head of Dietetics and Health Policy.

"There are more overweight or obese men than women, and yet men tend to be the ‘difficult to reach’ group."

Wiseman has a slightly different take on it.

"I think men are inherently gluttonous and they will have as much of anything as they can get away with.

"But I think 30 is the point where you start writing cheques that your body can’t cash."

He concedes that plenty of men are tempted by fad diets such as the Atkins diet, but believes that in general they make lifestyle changes, because they tend to associate fad diets with neuroticism.

Dr John Briffa agrees. "Increasing numbers of men are making and sustaining changes in their eating and not really thinking ‘I’m on a diet’. My feeling is that this sets them apart, a little, from women, who are more prone to getting on and off diets.

"Men may have been later to the party, but one could argue that they often take a refreshingly sensible approach to sustaining changes once they’ve made them."

Then there’s not just the diet they choose, but how they do it.

Matt Roberts, David Cameron’s personal trainer, believes that dieting divides along gender lines, with men treating it as yet another arena in which to be competitive with their mates.

"They become keen to show no weakness, like a badge of honour," he says.

"This all-or-nothing approach is very successful when it works … males now diet as much as females, but they do it in a slightly different way."

So, which diet will work for you?
