Question by firenice: Turned 35 so time to get healthy, help?
I am a 35 yo female who is relativly healthy. I exercise by walking everyday, and at the gym about 2-3 times a wk with cardio and weights. I am ht/wt appropriate with a bmi of 18.5 so am just looking to build muscle and improve cardio. I smoke and have tried everything under the sun to stop but will keep trying. I drink wine a few times a wk. I eat very healthy and take a multi vtm.

I am looking to make and start a program by detoxifying my body, any diet ideas are much appreciated and how it worked for you and how long it takes.

Any ideas to quit smoking would be great too. I have tried pills, patches, cold turkey.

Any other ideas for living healthier are welcome as well. 35 has kind of freaked me out, lol

as for diet ideas, drink water instead of everything else (one glass of wine per day is very healthy though, continue that). cut out empty calories (calories with no nutritional value; ex: potato chips, sodas, things of that nature).

as for quitting smoking, the only thing i can think of is to try to keep your hands and body busy. if you feel the need to smoke a cigarette, do some jumping jacks, take up knitting, anything to keep your mind off the cigarettes will help.

another strategy is to go w/ halfsies…smoke only 1/2 of a cigarette, then 1/4, then just cut down on the number of cigarette breaks you take. i’ve been trying to get my mom off smoking for years now, motivation from friends and family is the best method (as long as its constant; i can’t provide that seeing how i live 2 hrs away). good luck!

Question by Cricket: In a few weeks I’m going to detox from opiates at home. Any advice or tips would be greatly appreciated. HELP!?
I have been battling this addiction for over 4 years now. I started out taking a 1/2 of a 500mg vicodin once a week, just when I got a really bad tension headache. I quickly realized I felt “good” when I took them, so gradually started taking more often. That continued for about a year & a 1/2. Then I got pregnant. I was able to stop cold turkey, however I did take a total of about 5 pills throughout my whole pregnancy when aches & pains were really bad. I have always had a high tolerance for pain medications, so otc tylenol DOES NOT help me. So the minute you deliver a baby, guess what, they prescribed me a shiny new rx for darvocet. So since the day my baby was born in Aug. of ’07, I have not had 1 clean day. I have extreme depression, & little to no help or support from my husband. The pills make me feel not so sad, & gave me the energy I needed to “handle my business”. Over time my habit has increased tremendously..& I’m now taking at least 20 10/325mg Norco daily. I do have my own rx, but that lasts me all of 4 or 5 days, so then I start my “hunt” for a score. I buy 4 different peoples rx’s & am spending over $ 700 monthly on just the pills. Not to mention that while I’m on pills I smoke a pack a day, drink red bull & Starbucks like there’s no tomorrow, & have manic shopping habits. I have NO self control. My habit is costing my family everything we have. We can longer pay our bills, & my kids don’t have a mommy. The energy the pills used to give me went away a long time ago, now I barely have the motivation to shower. I can’t live like this anymore.
I have hit my bottom, & I HAVE to quit.
We can’t afford rehab, & my husband makes to much $ $ to qualify for any special “scholarships”…so basically I’m screwed. The other night I decided to talk to my G’pa about helping us to pay for a detox program. It was one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to do. My G’pa thinks so highly of me, & to tell him that I’m a drug addict was so painful. He has bailed us out sooooo many times financially in the past, he just can’t afford to pay for it. I should’ve asked him for help a long time ago…but…woulda, coulda, shoulda isn’t going to help now.
So I basically “told on myself” so now I have no other option BUT to quit. Since I can’t afford to pay for rehab, I have to do this at home. The plan is, my mom & husband are going to take a week off work & basically nurse me back to health…but I’m SCARED!!! I’ve heard so many horror stories.
I’m writing this in hopes that someone out there has some advice for me. I’m terified of the pain, diahrrea, nausea, bone aches, insomnia…all of it. I’ve read all these “recipes” that are supposed to help with wd symptoms, but believe it or not, I’m scared of taking drugs…I know funny right. I would like to be able to do this with ibuprofen, tylenol pm, immodium, & hot baths….but is that just ridiculous for me to even think that possible?? I don’t want to use suboxyn, or valium or any other substance to wd because my addictive personality will become addicted to them..I just know it.
If anyone out there has any advice for me..PLEASE help. I’m planning to do this the week after Thanksgiving, I would like to be back to my normal self by Christmas.

ok, I cannot tell you how many times I’ve seen this go wrong. Death is a very common side effect. The seizures alone could kill you. I know you can’t afford this but you can’t afford to leave your kids w/o a mom and a husband w/o a wife. Take a loan, go in debt. If you make enough money that you don’t qualify for gov’t assistance than you have some resources. Don’t do this solo. I promise you something real bad and scary will happen, someone will dial 911, you’ll get rushed to the hospital, and the bills will come anyways but there will be the chance you’re already dead.

Question by : Sugar Detox Help – Clueless about what i should eat?
Hello, i’m seriously thinking about doing sugar detox. The reasons are simple, body fat. I’m not fat, my BMI is 21-. However my arms and legs are too skinny when compared to the upper body. I always knew this would happen until i stop eating sugar, however since i’m way too skinny (i got to this because upper body fat didn’t go away at all, or as i would like), i need to adjust my diet and remove simple carbs from it, and eat complex carbs along with Protein. The questions starts here.

If this matters, i’m 23. And lost 20kg last year, from Feb to June.

1 – I’m at the gym, and i do cardio only until my first analysis at the new gym starts (one week from tomorrow). Which means i need energy for cardio, and sugar is one of the main sources of energy (correct me if i’m wrong), so i’m not sure what to eat at breakfast since i do the exercise in the morning. Cereals have sugar, even if a small amount the sugar is there, should i eat that sugar?

2 – If i don’t eat much, i usually get dark circles on my eyes, i do sleep well, but the dark circles for some reason appear, probably because the skin starts to lose fat and at the end i almost look like a vampire lol. However there’s a point i need to add here, when i say i don’t each much, i’m speaking overall, it’s when i eat around 1200 to 1500 calories daily, because honestly i don’t know what else to eat since sugar foods have almost all the other necessary calories, even if almost none to zero nutritional value. So there’s still 500 calories to go that i have no idea where to get.

3 – I’ve watched this video: http://www.ehow.com/video_4805884_sugar-detox-symptoms.html and i’m worried if any of this symptoms happen at the gym, so i’m lost here. If they do what i did wrong, or if i need to live with that until the detox is gone. if so how much time in average will it take to detox.

Translating, i’m doing cardio at the morning in the gym (around 1 hour and a half 5 times a week) and since i’m going to do sugar detox, what should be my breakfast, and the other meals what should i eat.

Thanks a LOT for whoever spend their time reading this and tries to help, i mean that! :)

Question by Miss Lynae: Lemonade Cleanse 10 day diet? Help me with recipe please!!!?
Hey all!! I was watching La Ink last nite, and two of the girls made a “lemonade cleanse”. It’s a diet you do for 10 days and you drink as much of this “lemonade” drink as you want. You mix lemon juices, filtered water, maple syrup and cayenne pepper. It’s supposed to help you lose weight and detox your body.
OK so… My question is:
In the recipe for the “lemonade” you’re supposed to use maple syrup. Well I messed up and when I went to the store today, I got pure molasses. Does anyone know about this lemonade cleanse?
Can I use the molasses instead of the maple syrup? And if not, what kind of maple syrup? It’s not supposed to be the kind you use on pancakes and stuff… So what kind is it!?!?
Thanks you guys!! TGIF!!! Have a great weekend!!

I heard about that and asked my father about it- you are not doing your body justice with that. You may think your cleansing- but your really killing.

try laxatives instead- and when you finish you will need to eat a lot of yogurt to replace all of the organisms that will have died.

No, they definately will not remove THC from your blood, urine or hair.

Detox pads remove minerals and salts from the body through osmosis.

They are all pretty much worthless.

Answer by akaMaryn
The notion that your colon needs cleansing is a triumph of marketing. There have been clinical studies, but none produced results backing the claims of colon cleansing products, including that your cravings are reduced.

Fecal material does not collect, impacted on the colon walls. Fecal material in the colon is not toxic and cannot poison. (Or constipated people would be found dead on the street. “Look, Jerry, there’s another one. Poor bastard didn’t eat enough fiber.”)

Colon cleansing is quackery, designed to sell you a product you don’t need.

There is no legitimate reason to cleanse your colon unless you’re getting a colonoscopy. (And the various colon cleansing products marketed on TV and in magazines are not what gastroenterologists want patients to use.)

Flushing everything out of the colon is not the secret to weight loss or better health. It results in weight loss not because it’s healthy but because poop and future poop weighs something. You’ll feel better because you *believe* you’ve done something healthy, not because you *have* done something healthy.

More beneficial than a colon cleansing is consistently eating whole grains, plenty of fruit and vegetables, and drinking enough to be properly hydrated all the time. Spend your health care dollars and time on something that’s actually beneficial.
