Question by firenice: Turned 35 so time to get healthy, help?
I am a 35 yo female who is relativly healthy. I exercise by walking everyday, and at the gym about 2-3 times a wk with cardio and weights. I am ht/wt appropriate with a bmi of 18.5 so am just looking to build muscle and improve cardio. I smoke and have tried everything under the sun to stop but will keep trying. I drink wine a few times a wk. I eat very healthy and take a multi vtm.

I am looking to make and start a program by detoxifying my body, any diet ideas are much appreciated and how it worked for you and how long it takes.

Any ideas to quit smoking would be great too. I have tried pills, patches, cold turkey.

Any other ideas for living healthier are welcome as well. 35 has kind of freaked me out, lol

as for diet ideas, drink water instead of everything else (one glass of wine per day is very healthy though, continue that). cut out empty calories (calories with no nutritional value; ex: potato chips, sodas, things of that nature).

as for quitting smoking, the only thing i can think of is to try to keep your hands and body busy. if you feel the need to smoke a cigarette, do some jumping jacks, take up knitting, anything to keep your mind off the cigarettes will help.

another strategy is to go w/ halfsies…smoke only 1/2 of a cigarette, then 1/4, then just cut down on the number of cigarette breaks you take. i’ve been trying to get my mom off smoking for years now, motivation from friends and family is the best method (as long as its constant; i can’t provide that seeing how i live 2 hrs away). good luck!

Question by sugar.spyce: Healthy no-pill detox plan, what do you think?
I would like to loose some weight to become healthy.
But before I do that, I want to do a 3 day no sugar detox. And eat foods that will help me with the detox. I read on an article that it takes about 3 days for most toxins to leave your body (not too sure about the validity).

So here’s the plan.
For 3 days I will:
- Drink only water or teas
- Eat fruits and vegetables
- cut out coffee, chocolate and !refined sugar!
- For carbs, eat rice or potatoes.
- Protein: Chicken (maybe Fish), and maybe eggs?

Is that a good plan?
After that I will try my best to stick to healthy eating, but I MIGHT go back to coffee or a bit of sugar.
But I guess the highlight of the plan is to eat fruits and vegetables.
Actually, I agree. This isn’t much of detox as it is healthy eating. I have to eat breakfast and think about what I am eating I guess. I do not eat a lot of junk foods or fatty foods, but I feel like lately I may have broken some of my own rules.
My “detox” idea is pretty much for refined sugar and toxins.
And I think its better if I do this for more than 3days.

I think what your eating is pretty good, though I eat that everyday so it isn’t much of a detox. If I were you I’d look up the Lemon juice diet. It worked miracles for me. I lost 10 pounds a week and wasn’t hungury at all. It is also healthy if not used for more that 2 weeks. then I would do I week on the “detox” plan you have then then like you said “try my best to stick to healthy eating, but I MIGHT go back to coffee or a bit of sugar. “

Question by PorMe1: I need healthy diet advice!!?
I am 5″7 and i weigh 150lbs. I wear a size 10 jean.I run about 4 miles generally 3 days a week with 1 aerobics class during the middle of the week.I have been with this routine for about 4 months now,and I have a few questions on why I am not seeing results. :( :(

Should I start taking detox pills and/or do the detox diet to get my weight loss/toning going?
Should I make fruit and yogurt smoothies everyday with protein powder in them to help tone/lose weight?

I guess I am getting discouraged because I have had this routine of running, some lifting and I am not seeing any results. I just want to know why.I consider myself active and I don’t eat more than 1500 calories a day. Their may be a day here or there that i have a few beers or wine or a cookie or 2 but I still workout.

Help!!! I am getting fusterated. I feel that I am working out so hard, I make it a point 4 days a week to workout…sometimes even 5-6 days a week depending on my schedule.

If anyone is willing to help me…you can e-mail me a Nieslowski4728@mstc.edu

Thanks everyone!! Let’s hope I can figure this out and get in shape!

Okay the reason you are not seeing results is because you have been on the same fitness plan for four months. You have hit a plateau. You must constantly change your exercise routine and challenge your muscles in new ways in order to see change. Because they are not being put under new stressors, they are not being caused to adapt. Change up your workouts asap! You can run longer distances, add weights, try heavier weights, try a different aerobics class, or increase your reps. Anything you can do to make your workouts significantly harder for yourself. Have you noticed that your workouts don’t seem hard anymore? That is probably why…
DO NOT TAKE DIET PILLS. They are harmful to your body and unnatural. The best way to lose weight and keep it off is to diet and exercise the right way. Eat healthy and workout 5-6 days/week for at least an hour. Also if you aren’t burning enough calories… or going out for football camp- you do not need protein powder. Too much protein can actually make you gain weight! This is because whatever you do not use is stored as fat. This is not what you want.
I think you should seek the help of a certified personal trainer. He/she will be able to make you a personalized fitness plan to help you see results! If you would like anyone advice beyond this.. let me know and I can use the e-mail you have listed above. Best of luck!

i would talk to your doctor to find the best way for you because some of the things that are out there say they are safe but they are not. do some research and talk to your doctor about it. you can just change your diet in small amounts for example, eat boneless skinless chicken, pork with no fat, use olive oil, eat more fruits and veggies, things like that. also doing a quick workout everyday is great. muscles help you burn fat even when you are sleeping ..
good luck :)
