Bowel management, there I’ve said it, those two words we don’t like to talk about. But sadly they need to be talked about. Its not as if constipation is a new thing and I should know I suffered with it for years. But what we don’t seem to accept is that we are adding to the problem with poor eating habits, indigestable food and not enough nutrional meals with fresh vegetables and good fats. We spend a fortune on attending to how we look externally and some of us even exercise, probably not enough though. But to address the problems associated with a toxic colon, such as constipation, tiredness, feeling bloated, headaches, skin problems etc. we need to clean from the inside out not the other way round.

In fact our body tries to tell us it is in stress mode and we frequently continue to ignore the signs. If you are continually feeling tired and sluggish, everything seems to ache, you suffer from diarrhoea, constipation, or a feeling of clumsiness, it’s quite likely that your system is in need of a detox. Rapid weight gain and the incapacity to lose the excess weight can also be signs of having a toxic system that needs either a colon cleanse or a full body detox.

Its ironic that if we were at a waste disposal plant and saw a sign saying toxic waste we would know it was dangerous, poisonous and should be avoided at all costs. Yet we don’t associate that same danger with our bodies becoming toxic. We have organs dedicated to keeping our bodies functioning but they are like the motor of a car they still need a service or oil change occasionally to stay at optimum operating power. They don’t blow fuses but they do give up under the continual workload.

If your body was an car, your liver would be considered the engine. It does hundreds of vital things to make sure everything runs smoothly. Some of the most important functions of the liver include, storage of vitamins, sugar and iron to help give your body energy, controls the production and removal of cholesterol, clears your blood of waste products, drugs, and other poisonous substances, produces immune factors and removes bacteria from the bloodstream to combat infection, releases a substance called “bile” to help digest food and absorb important nutrients.

The lymph glands also play an important role in eliminating toxins. A network of tubing exports excess waste from cells in the body to the necessary elimination organs. The appendix, thymus, tonsil, and spleens are major lymphatic glands that help the major organs of the body in cleansing and detoxing.

Healthy kidneys act like a filter to make sure the right amount of wastes and fluids are removed from our bodies, they ensure a proper balance of salts and acids is maintained in the body and produce hormones. Every day our kidneys perform the essential job of filtering 200 litres of blood, to remove about 2 litres of waste products and unrequired water.

Another vital organ are the lungs. The air we breathe is made up of several gases, of these oxygen is the most important for keeping us alive because body cells need it for energy and growth. Without oxygen, the body’s cells would die. This is where your lungs play an important role as they filter out carbon dioxide the waste gas that is produced when carbon is combined with oxygen as part of the body’s energy-making processes. The lungs and respiratory system allow oxygen in the air to be taken into the body, while also enabling the body to get rid of carbon dioxide.

Once our body is detoxed are not kept overworked dealing with all these cleansing process, it can its focus on doing the more important things like fighting back cancer and chronic degenerative diseases, restoring our health, and repairing the damage in our body.

Many people do not pay much attention to the necessity of bowel movement. This is very essential as this clears your body of waste material which if allowed to accumulate, could cause many complications. Hence, bowel movement must be regularized to at least once every day and many doctors recommend this. Of course it also depends on the kind of food that is being consumed by every individual.

Surprisingly enough, however, some people move their bowels once every three to five days. This leads to something called constipation – a condition that is directly linked to one’s dietary habits. If you’re constipated, there’s definitely something wrong with your diet.

Constipation consists of several symptoms, the most essential being a person’s inability to maintain regular bowel movements, which may lead to pain and bloating. In cases exceeding five days without movement, the large intestine may press against the bladder, creating the urge to urinate.

One of the functions of the large intestine is to absorb water from waste before it leaves the body. If waste remains too long in this organ, then too much water will be extracted, causing the stool to dry and harden. If this condition worsens enough, it may be very difficult for the sufferer to eliminate the waste, and he or she might need immediate medical attention.

Improper diet is the chief cause of constipation. Specifically, the condition is often the result of inadequate fiber consumption, often coupled with the over-intake of foods like bread, meat, and dairy products, which contain very little fiber.

The Atkins diet is a low-protein, low-carbohydrate diet that is also notoriously low in fiber. People who adopt the diet often have bowel movements only once or twice a week as a result of the nutrition they receive. Interestingly, fiber is indigestible plant matter that provides no calories, but simply acts a sort of “pipe cleaner” for the digestive system while also adding substance to the stool.

High-fiber foods include items like whole-grain flower, oatmeal and whole-wheat bread. Vegetables like broccoli, celery and lettuce are loaded with fiber, as are many fruits. Fruit fiber is found mainly in the skin, so remember to eat the skins of fruits like apples.

As constipation is a condition of the digestive system, it is clear that what “comes out” is a reflection of what goes in. Maintaining a diet that is high in fiber is the first step to insure you don’t get to the point of constipation. If you find it difficult to reach your daily allotment through whole-grains and vegetables, there are a plenty of fiber-enriched snack foods and cereals at your local grocer.
