The liver is a reddish brown organ weighing in at about 3 to 5 lbs., resides under the diaphragm on the right hand side of the body, and has many functions. It has two large arteries, the heptic artery, which has the job of carrying oxygen rich blood from the heart into the liver, and the portal vein that carry’s out the blood with digested foods.

The liver is one of the hardest working organs in the body, and excellent liver health means wellbeing, an overstressed liver however, means ill health and potential poor quality of life.

Its functions are:

- Filters harmful toxins, chemicals, preservatives, alcohol etc. The liver is the main line of defense against poisons entering and damaging our system.

- Turns glucose into glycogen which is fuel for your body. Some glycogen is used immediately and the rest may be stored in fat to be used at a later date. It processes protein and fats from digested foods and makes it available for transportation through the blood, which also includes proteins used to make beneficial clotting (such as for cuts and scrapes).

- The liver also produces bile which further enhances the digestive process and waste products are carried away.

- The liver also is a place of storage for vitamins such as B, A, D and K for use as needed.

- It is the major producer of cholesterol and triglycerides which are necessary for all then tissues of the body. Most cholesterol we get is from consuming animal fats but when we do not receive dietary cholesterol; our liver makes it and then distributes it to the bloodstream for transportation throughout the body.

- The liver also produces immune factors for the body that assist in removing bacteria from the blood, enhancing our resistance to infections.

Symptoms of a sluggish liver:

- chronic fatigue
- jaundice (yellowing of the skin and eyes)
- frequent headaches
- sleep disorders, nightmares
- dizziness
- hot flashes
- hormonal imbalances
- bloating of the stomach
- smelly diarrhea
- chronic constipation
- gallstones
- skin problems
- weak eye sight

There are many reasons a liver can become over burdened. We live in a world today where toxins are everywhere. There are literally hundreds of FDA approved chemicals, pesticides, fungicides, preservatives, MSG and now genetically modified foods. Processed food is so prevalent in north America’s daily diet that there is absolutely no wonder why we have such an obesity problem.

We are also bombarded with petro chemicals every single time a car, truck or bus etc., passes by us. Living in any city makes it impossible to get away from inhalation of these toxins.

Then there is industrial smoke that plumes out on a daily basis. Anyone living near one of these huge stacks will tell you that when the wind blows in their direction, the smell is definitely present.

Our water sources are also cause for some of the toxins our bodies absorb with chlorine and in some places, fluoride. In some states, they have to deal with toxins reaching underground water (the aquifer) from chemicals used on golf courses etc. It may look pretty but the environmental effects are very evident.

The point is, we live in a toxic environment and unless you are eating organic and live in the wilderness far away from mainstream life, you can benefit from periodic detoxing, especially the hardworking liver.

Some things you can do to unburden the liver are:

- Reduce stress in your environment
- Start your day with lemon juice in warm water, then eat fruit and drink non sugary juices.
- Make sure you eat salads and veggies at lunch.
- Drink a lot of water throughout the day. You can also get some of your water intake through herbal teas. They have beneficial anti-oxidants and depending on what kind you get, some have calming properties, detox properties etc.
- Get enough fiber in your diet. Fruits and vegetables are excellent sources of fiber.
- Get at least 15 minutes of sunshine per day.
- Get yourself more exposure to negative ions. These are present in nature, in forests, at the beach, and in the country. In short, get out of the city whenever you can. If you cannot get out of the city, consider getting an ion generator of some kind. Negative ion therapy is great for helping one detox and rebalance the body, plus negative ions gives you that feeling of wellbeing.

Help your body detox by addressing the liver and just see if you don’t feel better!

So let’s talk about your feet for a minute. Your feet? Yes. Many people involved in a whole body detox like to do a detox foot bath. This is not the same as the plastic massaging foot bath you got for Christmas that you never use. A detox foot bath uses a metal container that puts an electric charge in the water. This charge doesn’t hurt you, but binds to the toxins in your body and carries them out through the pores in the feet. Many people say this foot bath works well. But in any natural body detox, removing toxins is pointless if you are just going to put them back in your body. So yes, you may remove toxins through the hundreds of pores in your feet but if you put them back in you are kind of defeating the purpose.

Now what about the whole juice diet craze. It’s similar to a fast, except that you are allowing your body the nutrients from the juice. This is a great way to cleanse the system. However, you don’t want to do it for longer than a couple of days. You would be depriving yourself of other needed vitamins and minerals if this is all your natural body detox consists of.

Speaking of fasting, what about purging? This is where you bulk up on fiber, laxatives, or supplements to keep you in the bathroom for the better part of your natural body detox. This is one body detox tip you want to avoid. Yes, it is important to stay regular. But besides putting yourself at risk for bulimia and possibly harming your colon, purging doesn’t do much at all. When you purge, your body isn’t going to get rid of only the toxins and keep all the healthy stuff. It’s going to get rid of everything and leave you feeling sick and weak. While these can be normal side effects of a healthy body detox program, don’t fool yourself into thinking that purging is the way to go.

So now we have reviewed some of the most popular body detox tips in the fad arena. Make sure when looking at a fad that you check credible research to find out if this is something that is here to stay. Don’t jeopardize your whole body detox by engaging in risky behavior that will leave you worse off than when you started. The goal is to improve your health, not sabotage it.

The detoxification of the body is not just changing your diet; it is about changing your lifestyle. This is why a full body detox is important. A full body detox removes toxins and rejuvenates the body in a variety of different ways. You will want to make use of all the parts of the body that are designed to help expel the toxins that are brought into it.

The first thing to do with a full body detox is to change your diet so that you are providing your body with all the nutrients it needs. These are things like omega fatty acids, amino acids, and antioxidants. These encourage your body to remove the toxins before they are stored. You will want to increase fiber as well as decrease the amount of toxins you introduce by switching to organic foods.

There are some toxins however that can not be removed through diet changes alone and this is why a full body detox is essential if you are going to get the greatest benefit from removing toxins from your body. You will want to look into mediation. Not only does this relax you, which helps to keep your body functioning in a pattern, and way that is right for it but stress increases the effect of toxins and can even increase the number of toxins that are created within the body.

By reducing the amount of stress you feel you can help to reduce the toxins within your body. Mediation also teaches breathing techniques and for a full body detox these techniques are essential. There are a number of gaseous toxins that can be removed from the body through the proper breathing techniques. These techniques are important to full body detox processes because they help to supply the oxygen in the blood.

You are also going to want to consider your skin when you look into a full body detox. A full body detox also makes use of the skin, which not only absorbs a large number of environmental toxins but can also help to expel them. This is why dry skin brushing and using sweating techniques along with detoxifying body wraps can help to give you a full body detox by making full use of your skin as one of the ways to remove toxins from your body.

The human body is an amazing tool and given the right fuel it can provide you with everything you need to live a long and healthy life. Toxins from the foods you eat and the very environment itself have been attributed to many of the chronic breathing, fatigue, stress and pain issues that have been becoming more and more frequent in the health care community. By taking the time to do a full body detox and make use of your body’s own natural way of detoxification and by taking the necessary time to do it in you can lead a healthier, happier and longer life while looking younger and feeling better than you ever have before.

First of all let’s look at why we detox. Why we should go on a whole body detox and the risks that we take not going on a detox program.

There are dangerous chemicals and toxins that are housed throughout our body and more specifically in certain organs. These organs are actually used to keep these toxins out, by storing them theirself. Some of them include the liver (most importantly), then there is the kidneys and the digestive system.

Feeling constipated, bogged down, fatigued and just down right weak most of the time. Well it is time for a whole body detox to take care of it for you.

Okay, so what in the world is a whole body detox?

You will want to make sure that you take your time to totally, completely and easily remove the toxins from your body. If you try one of those quick fix diets, it can actually cause harm to your body and it doesn’t work as well. A whole body detox consists of taking the proper vitamin supplements. Then of course the foods that you consume make all the difference in the world.

First of all, you want to make sure that you are eating raw vegetables and fruits that are not ladened with chemicals and pesticides. Enhance your whole body detox by drinking plenty of water. Preferably distilled water, because tap water has chlorine and other harmful chemicals in it.

To get the most of your whole body detox, you will want to make sure that you stay on it for at least 28 days. This way you go through the process at a slower pace and it doesn’t overwhelm your body. Also, you want to reap the full benefits of completely cleansing your entire body and all of the organs. Especially those that aid in cleansing toxins out on a regular basis.

Finding the best whole body detox method is not hard to do. There are natural ways that you can accomplish just that. you will never feel better. Also, note that it is highly recommended that you detox at least twice a year and also eat as healthy as possible.

Always make sure that you talk to your doctor or health care professional before starting a new whole body detox diet. He or she will definitely know what the best method is for you and they will also know what supplement is right for you as well.

Be sure that you drink plenty of water as well. Water is essential in any detox program because it helps to remove the toxins from your system as well as replace necessary nutrients.

It is highly recommended to take part of a whole body detox, because it is in your best interest. Your body will definitely love you for it.

Recommended foods:

Raw veggies
Raw fruits

No salt peanuts
Sea salt
Distilled drinking water
