For family members with loved ones fighting addictions or those seeking to break the hold of alcohol or drugs, Cleveland County is about to gain another resource.

Rhett Melton, area director for Pathways, said construction on the detox center is scheduled to be completed in February.

The facility will be the sole detox center in Cleveland County.

“We’re still shooting for a mid-March grand opening,” Melton said. “it will take us about a month after completing construction to complete licensure and get it furnished.”

Grant funds center, jobs

Early last year, it was announced that Cleveland County was awarded a $336,000 Rural Hope grant to help create the 16-bed facility, operated under Pathways Mental Health.

Not only will the new unit help provide health services, it will also lead to the creation of 28 new jobs and positively impact the county, in desperate need of a detox facility.

Cleveland County Sheriff Alan Norman said addictions don’t just affect the individual, but the family and the community.

“I think a large percentage of our crime that occurs out in the county is the individual that has a drug dependency,” Norman previously told The Star. “I’d say 90 percent of our property crimes are narcotic related.”

Police say there is also an increasing number of people with addictions to prescription pills.

‘there is a huge need out there’

The brick building is located on Washington Street. Melton said work left to complete focuses on the interior as well as the parking lot and landscaping.

“there is a huge need out there,” said Melton. “it will be well utilized and be a great service to he community.”

He said finding staff is the next step.
