Colon HydrotherapyColon hydrotherapy is a gentle, natural method of washing long-term wastes from the entire colon.  when this is done, the body no longer has to deal with waste accumulated during a lifetime, and can use more of its own strength to heal itself and fight disease. Virtually everyone has these built-up wastes in their colon, especially from eating processed foods, foods with preservatives, pesticides, and the chemicals and hormones that are added to many of our foods.  Colon hydrotherapy is not painful or dangerous. the pressure felt is less than naturally occurring gas.  Colon hydrotherapy helps control weight. Research from scientist in both America and Europe, have demonstrated that people in the richer nations carry within their bodies anywhere from 10 to 50 pounds of accumulated toxic materials.  Some aliments, which may be relieved by colon hydrotherapy, are; allergies, colitis, low back pain, halitosis, arthritis, constipation, headaches, indigestion, and lack of energy are just to name a few.

How does it work: A soothing flow of purified warm water is instilled gently into the colon through a disposable rectal nozzle.  the small rectal nozzle is easily inserted to cleanse the contents of your lower colon.  the system is designed to allow evacuation of the contents of the colon during the administration of colon hydrotherapy.  the pressure, temperature, and flow of water, are all safely regulated throughout the session.  there is no odor since the waste is evacuated directly through the sewer drainpipe.

Ionic Detox Foot BathThe Ionic Detox Footbath assists in recovery time from injuries and surgery.  the Ionic Detox Footbath can also assist with: headache & pain relief, joint stiffness, improved sleep patterns, removing heavy metals, menstrual pain, arthritis pain, and boosting the immune system as well as improve kidney and liver functions.  While immersing your feet in the water, positive and negative ions are emitted by the machine, which re-energize the body.  This type of machine is described as a Detox machine because the response of a re-balanced body is to excrete any excess toxins via the kidneys, liver, bowels, and skin not only DURING but also AFTER treatment.  therefore, you will experience the beneficial effects of a Detox experience.  the entire process takes 30-40 minutes for adults and is completely safe to use.  it is however, not recommended for pregnant woman, anyone with a heart pacemaker or an organ transplant.

Our bodies are like an orchestra; if one instrument is out of tune it throws off the entire arrangement.  our center offers valuable resources to fine tune your body by using holistic therapies to direct your body in a way that it can perform and play in harmony without the use of drugs or surgery.  Preventative Health can help us to discover ways to nurture and heal our daily aches and pains.  it can help us bring about physical and emotional changes, creating a feeling of wholeness in a way that makes a connection to our mind, body and spirit.  Come and experience a new and better way of achieving health and wellness here at Heathers.

Whether we eat or don’t eat, food has become the enemy to many of us due to our obsessive relationship with the word “diet.” We should be on a diet; we’re going on a diet; we just broke a diet; the cleanse diet; the detox diet; the no-carb diet; the no fat diet; the baby food diet! Diet, Diet, Diet! the word “diet” was originally used to refer to the eating habits of humans and animals based on foods that were available in their habitat. Now, when we use the word diet, it means deprivation, starvation and humiliation. We go on a diet to punish ourselves for “being bad,” for gaining weight and not looking like some media-driven idealization of the human body. has anyone noticed that the word “diet” begins with the word “die?” Often it feels that way when we are dizzy and light-headed from too few calories. most diet thinking goes like this: “okay, I’ll deny myself the really goody, yummy stuff on a temporary basis and eat the really plain, boring diet stuff on a temporary basis to shed pounds quickly!” and what happens? We shed the pounds on a temporary basis! most “diets” fail because they cannot be sustained. We go from one extreme, eating whatever we want, whenever we want, to the other, eating below starvation levels that wreak havoc with our metabolism, sometimes for life. We are never at peace with food on this mad rollercoaster ride of “gorge and denial.” Food as our Friend Food brings us together in social situations. Food stimulates endorphins, the pleasure chemicals in our brain. Food connects us with the earth and our place in it. this constant battle we wage within ourselves to achieve weight loss in a hurry, denies us the joy and nourishment of food, a basic biological drive. It’s time to eliminate the word “diet” from our vocabulary and replace it with the term, “eating healthfully.” When we choose to “eat healthfully” we can’t help but make wise choices and enjoy those choices in moderation. a good rule of thumb to keep us on this path is to eat from “nature’s rainbow.” Choose at least ten 1/2-cup servings of a variety of deeply colored fruits and vegetables, such as kale, blueberries, squash and tomatoes each day instead of chips, cookies and soda. this will ensure that we get a wide range of vitamins, minerals and fiber, plus the added benefits of phytochemicals, the bioactive compounds found in the color, scent, taste and texture of fruits and vegetables. Phytochemicals are a plant’s natural defense system that is transferred to us when we consume them. these “superfoods” help fight disease through antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and other pathways. Make the effort to buy organic from farmers’ markets to support our local farmers while getting the freshest, vitamin-packed, pesticide-free produce. allow food to become a positive part of living. this change in attitude may take some effort, as most of us have become programmed to live on the gorge/diet rollercoaster, reinforced by magazines displayed at the supermarket checkout proclaiming today’s miracle diet that will help us lose ten pounds in ten days. the truth is, what we lose is ourselves, our humanity and our sense of wellbeing. No wonder those pounds bounce right back! Eating is essential to our existence. Eating well is essential for quality of life and longevity. the food we take in is broken down and converted into energy to help us function at the cellular level. the better the food, the better the function. by choosing to eat healthfully and no longer diet, we look better, feel better and enjoy life better. Food will once again become a positive force in our lives. With this concept in mind, here are some suggestions to help get you through the holiday party season and enable you to fully participate in the festivities, be satisfied and feel in control. if you don’t pile the pounds on in December, you won’t have to resolve to take them off In January! • Don’t binge. Don’t deny. Don’t diet. • never go to a party hungry. Don’t starve yourself all day to eat all night. • enjoy food in moderation by taking tastes not ladles of each item. • go to the buffet once and make sure that veggies fill half of your plate • Chew slowly, savor each bite, be the last to finish. • Drink sparkling mineral water with your meal. it will fill you up. • Choose one dessert and enjoy it thoroughly, guilt free. • Stop eating when you feel 80 percent full. Wishing you a joyous and healthful Holiday Season! Deborah Brooks is an ACSM Certified Personal Trainer and a Certified Fitness Instructor through UCLA. Alcohol addiction is considered to be the most common addiction in the world. its effects are notorious, its causes more so. Much of the world can’t escape the terrible effects of alcoholism, especially now where we live in a world where the bottle is as available to the majority as ever. With the outbreak of alcoholism comes the advent of methods on how to counter it, and the methods to counter it are fortunately widespread, and as readily available as getting a bottle. Much more, treatment of such an addiction is offered at almost any major city in the world right now. The treatment, of course, like any other treatment for anything, requires the utmost participation of the recipient, and foremost, his/her willingness to commit to change. only then can the true path to recovery be achieved.

As stated, the desire for change must be there. If the desire is not met, the road to recovery shall be closed. it is an important factor that the sincerity of one’s actions to commit oneself to change is present. What’s more, there should be the immediate support of the people around him/her, for no one goes through addiction alone. Friends and family are the greatest shields against one’s own destructive alcoholic behavior. If one piece refuses to cooperate, the shield falters. but the blame should not rest on the people around the alcoholic, no, the shield against destruction still rests within the alcoholic him/herself.

The most famous treatment for the alcoholic is a rehabilitation clinic, that caters solely to the needs of an alcoholic patient. these rehabilitation clinics offer the latest in fighting alcoholism, whether it be the latest methods, the latest medications, mantras, and even the latest physical and psychological analyses with regards to the alcoholic and alcoholism in general. They are also taken care of by certified experts who have had a ton of experience with regards to alcoholism. Within the rehabilitation clinic, the main purpose of it is to let the alcoholic be rid of toxic substances, as painful as it sounds, and concentrate on the being’s mental and emotional states. Alcohol detoxification is a must, since many alcoholics tend to fall deeper down the hole because they suffer ailments. If detoxification is met, the continuance of guidance and spiritual enhancement is further imbibed within the alcoholic. The road may be rough, the alcoholic will surely experience withdrawals that they fear the most, but the end result is priceless. A clean bill of health, better yet, a new beginning, awaits the reformed alcoholic.

If there is further fear in alcohol detoxification, then one must not be worried so. in fact, many of today’s rehabilitation clinics offer state-of-the-art technology that counter the severe effects of withdrawals. what is more important, however, is the mental and emotional states. The battle for alcoholism does not last in a month, or in a year, or in years, it lasts a lifetime. Discipline is the key to recovery. There is no treatment for alcoholism that is instantaneous. Also, there is no mystical and all-powerful drug that can help alcohol addicts to stop taking in large amounts of alcohol. There are, however, some medication that helps an alcohol addict stay in a state of sobriety.

Simon Cowell and Gwyneth Paltrow have been slammed by a science charity for giving misleading health facts this year.

In an annual report for 2011, Sense About Science (SAS) claimed a host of popular faces had made confusing statements while talking about their health and fitness regimes.

Cowell revealed earlier this year that he takes a cocktail of vitamins C, B12 and magnesium to make him look and feel young.

However Ursula Arens – a dietitian at the British Dietetic Association – said it is unlikely his vitamin injections provide such drastic results.

“The absorption of vitamins is very efficient so – apart from people who are very ill or have particular gut problems – nearly all of what you eat is taken up by your body,” she said.

Paltrow is famed for discussing her diet and fitness habits in her Goop newsletter. the gorgeous star is renowned for her detox plans and regularly shares them with fans.

this year, she wrote: “I have gooped about Dr Alejandro Junger’s Clean programme before because it gave me such spectacular results; it is really just the thing if you are in need of a good detox – wanting some mental clarity and to drop a few pounds… Here’s to a happy liver and an amazing 2011!”

However, Dr Christian Jessen says detoxing is not always the answer to maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

“Your body has its own fantastic detox system already in place in the shape of your liver and kidneys. Much better to drink plenty of water, eat a balanced diet, get plenty of sleep, and let your body do what it does best,” he said.

TV personality Snooki was also criticised in the report.

the famously outspoken star claimed she avoided the seaside because “the water’s all whale sperm. That’s why the ocean’s salty”.

Snooki was blasted for such claims.

“The salt in the sea comes from many millions of years of water flowing over rocks and minerals,” Simon Boxall revealed.

“It slowly dissolves them leading to the ‘salty’ nature of the seas – it’s not just salt but every material on the planet including gold. Salt water actually keeps our oceans free from many human pathogens – so why not give the beach another try and get back in the water?”

Tracey Brown is the managing director at SAS and says there is no excuse for celebrities providing misleading information.

“It’s tempting to dismiss celebrity comments on science and health, but their views travel far and wide and, once uttered, a celebrity cancer prevention idea or environmental claim is hard to reverse. At a time when celebrities dominate the public realm, the pressure for sound science and evidence must keep pace,” she said.

SHE has the brains, and the figure, that made Robbie Williams publicly proclaim he wanted to bed her.

But for party-girl Carol Vorderman, the new Year means a strict detox before she can even consider taking the take that star up on his offer.

The single Loose Women star has seen her children grow up so she can now accept all the invitations that drop through her letter box.

Yet she admits to piling on several pounds because she has enjoyed herself a little too much over the past 12 months as part of her 50th birthday celebrations, which started last December.

“I’ve had the best year of my life,” says the star, who is usually a slinky size 10. “I can honestly say that and, most of all, I would put belly laughing at the top of my highlights list. They always say that laughter is the best medicine.

“but I’m quite a lot bigger at the moment than I normally am. so I’m going to go on a hardcore detox diet in January where you eat loads and loads of fruit, vegetables and brown rice.”

Carol became the detox queen when she dropped two dress sizes in a year and turned her weight loss secrets into a best-selling book and video, the 28 Day Detox Diet.

The regime restricts wheat, dairy, alcohol, meat, caffeine and processed food and encourages living off vegetables, pulses, grains and lots of water for a month to purge the body of toxins and lose weight.

Detoxing gave her the enviable size 8-10 figure that she has kept until her recent excesses.

But even her tighter waistbands won’t get her sweating it out on a treadmill or rowing machine.

“I can’t be bothered to go to the gym. I honestly just can’t be bothered – it’s the most boring thing on Earth. I have tried and every six months I go ‘right, I’m going to the gym’. then I do it for two weeks and get so bored by it,” she laughs.

“I’m lucky as I’m actually very healthy. I don’t have any aches and pains, although I couldn’t run more than a mile.

“I’m not fit in that sporting sense, although I love my dancing. but I’m conscious that I don’t have to take any tablets except a couple of vitamin supplements.

“I just think, ‘how lucky am I?’

“next year, I hope there will be even more parties, lots of holidays and just having a good time, really. plus wing-walking, air shows and learning to fly, as they are all things I want to do. I won’t be restricted by age.”

Carol turned 51 on Christmas Eve and, extra inches or not, she still turns heads. Robbie Williams revealed this week he still has a massive crush on the former Countdown star.

“is there anyone who wouldn’t sleep with Carol Vorderman?” he asked listeners to his online radio show. Carol choked on her cornflakes when she read his comments in the Mirror.

But she has two new Year’s resolutions – shed the few extra pounds and go out and party even harder than she did in 2011.

“I’m just happier than I have ever been in my life. next year the Queen may have her Jubilee but, by hell, I’m going to party as much as she does,” says Carol, mum to Katie, 21, and 15-year-old Cameron.

“I say yes to a lot of things now. I used to be very work orientated for a very long time.

“for a lot of women ambition is a dirty word whereas for men it is a positive thing. you just try your best.

“also, if you have young children and you’re a working mother, the hours you aren’t working and sleeping you want to spend with your children. Kate is at Cambridge University now and Cameron is 15, so it’s a different kind of life. It’s fantastic.

“the best thing is it’s not like when you are 23 where you can do whatever you want. I think it’s much richer – and I don’t mean that in a material way.

“you are more conscious of life so you feed off that and I adore that.”

Carol may be single at the moment but that doesn’t mean she is off the market. yet it would be a brave man who would take on the brainy brunette.

“I’ve always been very independent – fiercely and terribly independent – and I think you get to a stage when you can exercise it,” she says. “I love being single, although I’m not telling you anything about that. That’s where I zip up my mouth. of course, I’ve been on dates. I’m not complaining and I’m happy.”

The new Year sees her in a new job that she has embraced with gusto. as one of the new Loose Women she has the chance to get far away from ‘can I have a vowel please, Carol?’

“I love Loose Women and I’m not just saying that,” she gushes. “I’m not like ‘Oh it’s really nice, I love doing it’. I love it, seriously love it.

“I hope that it does come across on screen because I am just thrilled to be on it and I think it is a privilege to be on it. I’ve had the best feeling on that – apart from the Daily Mirror’s Pride of Britain as that’s a wholly different event – since doing Countdown with Richard Whiteley.

“since Countdown, it has been the only other show that I get a thrill from. It’s great as you can say what you want and have a right old natter and then it’s fine as you walk away and are still buddies with everyone. I am so proud of how well the viewing figures are doing and I’m just part of the collective – that’s all I ever want to be.

“the studio audience is fantastic and I’m getting a load of feedback from people as I’m walking around, which is quite unusual, and it’s a bit like Countdown in that respect.

“I can only talk about when I was on there with Richard, but to a lot of people it was a guilty secret.

“They’d be like ‘Don’t tell anyone but I love Countdown’ – we’d have university students, Lords of the realm, chief executives and professors all watching it.

“And now Loose Women is the guilty pleasure of quite a lot of men, which is quite interesting.

“now men stop me in the street and say ‘Oh, you’re on that Loose Women’. I’ll ask them if they watch it and they’ll reply ‘No’. so I say: ‘well how do you know that I’m on it then?’ And then, of course, they admit they do and even say I’m quite good on it!”

But despite the confidence that’s rubbed off on the once meekest member of the panel Andrea McLean, who recently stripped off for a photo shoot, Carol insists she has no plans to follow suit.

“when I saw the pictures of Andrea I was like ‘Oh my God, you look so good!’ Andrea is so glamorous but I’m not doing a naked shoot, by the way. not even if I got offered £1million. never.

“That’s not to judge anybody who has done it, I’m just not doing it.”

With all the parties coming up in 2012, starting with new Year’s Eve, Carol is determined to keep herself looking as good as possible until she finally meets Robbie. she wants him to join her on the show, which returns on Tuesday.

But she isn’t stressing about the Robster seeing any wrinkles. “I use whatever moisturiser is nearest,” she laughs. “I’ve just switched to something I found in my beauty drawer that I think is probably quite a cheap one.

“I do use a cleanser now, one from the brand Guinot, as sometimes when you are older you can get quite a few spots. but I use this and I don’t really get any.

“That’s lucky as I’m terrible and never take my make-up off at night, which I know is dreadful.

“Whenever I’m out partying I just can’t be bothered and now I am on Loose Women that tends to be all the time.

“I hope that 2012 holds even more parties for me.”

In 2008, a visit to Instafirm Body Wraps in Troy by a female friend of Joni Johnson’s led to a new venture for Johnson and future business partner Brenda Grund. Johnson’s friend raved about the quality of service and results, and Johnson and Grund had to see it for themselves. After one visit, both women were impressed. Johnson and Grund were looking to start a business together and when they learned the owner had some health problems and decided to sell the business, the duo jumped at the chance to buy it.To prepare for this new venture, both had two weeks of off-site intensive training and continued with six months of on-going in-house training. Instafirm with its one employee quickly outgrew its 1,100 square feet, and Johnson and Grund knew they would need a larger space to keep up with demand and to add new services. in the early part of 2011, the pair moved into a 1,400 square foot location at 5069 Livernois in Troy, renamed the business Instafirm Body Wraps & Spa, added new services, four employees, and is already to the point of needing a bigger space.Johnson, of Rochester Hills, and Grund of Oakland Township, are no stranger to running successful businesses. Over time, our body will accumulate toxins and other substances that are harmful to our body. Humans get this through drinking, smoking, inhaling air pollution and even through eating. Once these toxic substances pile up in the body, the person’s bodily functions will fail which is often the cause of different diseases. in order to avoid this from happening, a whole body cleanse is a must. Our body has limited ability to get rid of the accumulated toxins on its own. So we must aid the body in this cleansing process.

Flushing the Toxins

A whole body cleanse is a way of flushing out harmful wastes inside our body allowing people to live healthier and even lose weight. doing a whole body cleanse does not mean you have to spend a lot of money to rejuvenate your body; you just have to eat natural foods and do activities that will suit your body. Generally, fasting once a week, light natural foods, drinks, and the right amount of exercise based on abilities is recommended for the duration of the whole body cleanse period. this period can be 2 to 4 weeks long depending on the condition of your body.

Whole Body Cleansing Program Instructions

The first step in a whole body cleanse is to drink plenty of water preferably warm. Warm water helps flush out harmful substances in your body so make sure to drink more than eight glasses of water everyday so the toxins will be flushed out. Aside from that, drinking water also helps in making your skin look healthy, smooth and supple.

Second, avoid eating junk food as well as cakes, candies, processed meat, and soda. you should also avoid potatoes, white bread, chocolates and fried foods. Instead, eat more fruits and consume them in the morning. Fruits that are high in anti-oxidant like pineapple, bananas, apples and grapes help in boosting your immune system. Aside from fruits, you should also pack up on vegetables. make sure they are warm and cooked during this whole body cleanse period. Increase your vegetable intake by adding more kinds in your meal plan. Vegetables help our body reject toxins which is very helpful in cleansing, especially bitter melon.

Third, aside from eating all natural foods, it is important that you also have a daily exercise. you don’t need to consume an hour for this. in fact, simple exercises like jogging or using the stairs instead of the elevator help in flushing out toxins through sweating.

These are some of the important steps you need to do in order to flush out toxins from your body. Maintain this program for 2 weeks at least for a gentle cleanse. you will see that the whole body cleanse program is working if you will have higher energy and will have better appetite towards the end of the program.

Ideally, you will start to see results from the whole body cleanse program in 10-14 days. however, it depends on your age, health, toxin accumulation, and how often you do the cleansing. you may have to continue for a month to start seeing results. If you are taking any medications for health condition, please consult with your doctor before starting such a program. Lastly, remember that you need to detoxify your body at least 3 to 4 times in a year to maintain a healthier body.
